Kruisrivier Guest Farm
September/October are hiking and cycling months.
The Eco Ventures 201km and 301km Karoo Hikes take place and Kruisrivier Guest Farm is host to all three visits. The veld is beautiful and the hikers enjoy blooming vegetation like the Klapperbos ( Nymania Capensis), succulents and aloe species. The big mountain tortoises are back from their wintersleep and are often seen next to the dirt roads or drinking water in the streams..
The hikers/cyclists enjoy the wheather this time of the year – the days are not yet too hot, although there might be frost some mornings. “It makes the endurance easier not to compete with the stinging sun as well,” many recommend. The 201km group has seen of the last snow on the highest parts on the Swartberg Pass. The view from the top – a patchwork blanket – a much rewarding sight after a lot of sweat to reach the top.
Arriving at Kruisrivier, the ice cold stream water is a cure for the sore feet. After a lovely braai dinner on the deck under a rewarding Karoo sky, it is time to get the tired bodies in bed to be ready to explore the next part of the beautiful Karoo.
